Period! ------------------------------------------------------------ "Learning to communicate is like taking out an insurance policy. You never know when you'll need it, but it's too late to take it out after you need it." Allan Kaufman as quoted in Baltimore Magazine ------------------------------------------------------------ *********************** Check This Out! *********************** "Public speaking and even presentations to small groups were my greatest fears and I had gone to great lengths to avoid them throughout my career. In my new company, public speaking was not something I could avoid and my speaking ability would be quickly tested. After a lot of research, I turned to Allan & Allan. Most other companies only offer skill training. What I needed was to overcome my life long fear of speaking in front of groups. The No Sweat Speaking system seemed illogical to me at first and I was skeptical. The great part about the system is that you don't have to understand it or believe that it will work. It just happens. Today I speak in front of groups, give media interviews and conduct training sessions on a routine basis. Not only is my speaking anxiety gone, but my skills continue to improve and I look forward to my next opportunity to speak. I give my highest recommendation for Allan and Allan's system. If it works for me, it can work for anyone." Thanks, Jim M. Connecticut --------------------------------- Is Speaking Fear Holding You Back, Costing You a Lot of Money? --------------------------------- Let's be honest. If you have performance anxieties, you know you need to kill those butterflies in your stomach, but you may be afraid to take the next step and/or you're not willing to invest in yourself to make it happen. One man said to us that he knows he really needs us to coach him, but he thinks he can't afford to. What he can't afford to do is do nothing and continue NOT getting promoted and continue NOT seeking better job or business opportunities because he may have to speak in front of people. This is so sad. It's especially sad when that same person will take out a $20,000 car loan on a depreciating asset. Getting rid of your speaking anxieties and developing your speaking skills are appreciating assets. They increase your value. This means once you do it, you continue to reap the rewards. One promotion leads to another one and another one, but if you don't do what you need to do to get that first promotion, you stagnate. You could be promoting your businesses and increasing your income by speaking to groups who need your products and services, but your speaking anxiety and other performance blocks are holding you back. Probably, you're reading our ezine because you have some speaking anxieties. If they're bad enough, don't you think it's time to do something about it and improve your self- confidence? How much is having a sense of confidence worth to you? Not just in your work and business life but also in your social life? Have you ever thought about being the life of the party? About being less shy? --------------- We Can Help You --------------- Using our unique No Sweat Speaking(tm) techniques, we provide personal coaching to help you get rid of your speaking anxieties in a relatively short period of time. Featured Article ------------------------------------------------------------ **Use the ALLAN STRATEGY for Your Speaking Success** by Allan Kaufman There is a German proverb that says, "What's the use of running if you are not on the right road." In other words, first find the right strategy that can bring you success in front of an audience; then, apply the strategy. If you want positive speaking results, apply the ALLAN STRATEGY. A Alleviate your speaking fears. L Learn basic presentation skills. L Learn advanced presentation skills. A Always work with a coach or a mentor. N Never give up. *Alleviate Your Speaking Fears.* Frankly, acquiring decent speaking skills is difficult when you are scared to death in front of an audience. Many people find the process emotionally painful; consequently, they never get started. They spend their entire lives avoiding speaking in public and avoiding taking a public speaking class. We've seen it all. Our clients come to us with hearts racing, minds going blank, feeling faint or nauseous, knees wobbling, voices cracking, and breathing rapidly. They want to run out of the presentation room -- to escape. Often this fear reaction begins when their boss asks them to give a presentation. So what do they do? Many avoid speaking opportunities. Some even avoid promotional opportunities just to avoid having to give presentations. Getting rid of your speaking fears and anxieties is imperative and a prerequisite for progress. Once you address your fears, you are ready to . . . *Learn Basic Presentation Skills* After you conquer your performance related fears and anxieties, you can learn basic presentation skills such as preparing your program, defining your speech purpose, and organizing your presentation. You can learn how to grab your audience's attention, make a good first impression, and acknowledge your audience. Other basic skills you can master are using vocal variety, making effective eye contact, and using visual aids, such as PowerPoint, effectively. You can continue your basic education by learning how to gesture for effect, how to use a microphone, and how to prepare an introduction and introduce other speakers. You can finish your basic education by learning the skills of speaking impromptu, understanding speech etiquette, and using notes effectively while you keep your audience engaged. Once you master these skills then . . . *Learn Advanced Presentation Skills* Learn how to handle a question and answer session, how to use humor effectively, and how to roast or toast someone. Prepare yourself to be an effective emcee, to plan a party program or event, and to do a team presentation and present a seminar or workshop. How do you do all of the above? You . . . *Always Work with a Coach or a Mentor* Find someone with whom you feel comfortable and most importantly, someone who can help you get rid of your speaking anxieties quickly and teach you basic and advanced public speaking techniques for speaking success. Many business professionals recognize the value of having a coach to teach them, give them feedback, and help them reach their potential. While you are following the ALLAN STRATEGY, remember . . . *Never Give Up* Invest the time and money to do it right. It will pay big dividends. Once you have the confidence and skills, you are likely to land the position you always wanted or get the promotion you desire. As a business-person, you can promote your business via presentations, seminars, and workshops. Your income will soar, and you will feel a lot better about yourself. Some people take a short time to master the ALLAN STRATEGY. Others take a little longer. No matter how long it takes you, keep at it and never give up. So follow the ALLAN STRATEGY for your speaking success. Alleviate your speaking fears, learn basic presentation skills, learn advanced presentation skills, always work with a coach or a mentor, and never give up. This strategy will get you on the right road. The running is up to you. ------------------------------------------------------------ "Keynote was a huge success! You were right about everything--from bringing my introduction to adding humor. I ended up adding about 9 humorous things to my presentation-- I actually brought the house down with the expandable ball visual. Thanks for everything. You made all the difference." Best, Trish "In minutes you were able to do for the audience what some people have been trying to do for themselves for a lifetime. You two helped audience members get rid of the fear of public speaking right before my very eyes.... Any organization can benefit greatly by witnessing your seminar.... You two are a great team!" Presentation Skills Tip ------------------------------------------------------------ **How to Present Yourself In a Videoconference** by Allan Misch A videoconference is a meeting that connects participants virtually by video and audio technologies. The self-image that you project is what meeting participants will remember the most. Make sure you dress appropriately. Wear only a white or light blue shirt and a tie that is camera-friendly. Avoid nervous mannerisms such as rocking in your chair, drumming your fingers, and wringing your hands. Do whatever you can to keep awake. Remember, in a videoconference you never know when you are "on camera." So act as if you are always on camera. Do so and you will project a positive, powerful image. ------------------------------------------------------------ *** Great Speaking Resource *** Turn your speaking, training, or sales skills into cash. Humor Tip ------------------------------------------------------------ **How to Get Your Audience In a Light-hearted Emotional State with a Gesture** by Allan Misch After using a bit of humor and your audience laughs or smiles, immediately make an unusual gesture. For example, you could touch your ear lobe or chin. The subconscious minds of your audience will anchor, or associate, this gesture with feeling good, light-hearted, and happy. Do this a couple of times, Then, whenever you want your audience to shift their emotional state to feeling light- hearted and happy, invoke your "special" gesture. You'll start to see people smiling before you introduce your humorous material. ------------------------------------------------------------ **If You're Looking for a Home for Your Website, iPowerWeb Makes Website Hosting Simple!** We did a lot of research on Web hosting companies and compared many of them.
